Dead battery again? Work out why first
If a battery dies once, it may just be old. If it keeps happening, something is causing it, and a new battery won't fix that on its own.

What the symptom usually means
Did it die overnight, or while driving?
Dying overnight points at something drawing power after you lock the car. Dying while driving points at the alternator not charging.
How old is the battery?
Around three years is a realistic life in Tampa's heat. If yours is at or beyond that and failing a load test, replacing it is the whole answer.
Have you added anything electrical recently?
A dash camera wired to a permanent feed, an aftermarket stereo or a phone charger that never switches off can quietly drain a battery overnight.
Does a jump start hold?
If the car runs fine for days after a jump, the battery was simply flat. If it dies again within a day, the charging system needs testing.
This is a guide, not a diagnosis. Two cars with identical symptoms regularly turn out to have different faults — that's what the scan is for.

Before you spend money
- A battery that has been fully flattened several times rarely recovers its full capacity.
- Corroded terminals produce the same symptoms as a dead battery and cost almost nothing to clean.
- Mostly short trips? The battery may never fully recharge between drives.
- Newer vehicles often need a replacement battery registered to the car. Skipping it shortens its life.
Questions
I just replaced the battery and it died again. Why?
Most likely the battery wasn't the cause. Either the alternator isn't charging it or something is draining it while the car is parked. Both can be tested.
